Support Mat-Su Sentinel

The Mat-Su Sentinel is fueled by reader donations, and we need your help now.

Better yet, from now until December 31, the national NewsMatch program will match your new monthly donation 12 times or double your one-time gift up to $1,000. Through this program, we have the opportunity to earn up to $18,000 from NewsMatch.

At the Mat-Su Sentinel, we serve as a watchdog in the Mat-Su, providing the community information you need and holding those in power accountable through the simple act of reporting the facts.

I'm Amy Bushatz, the reporter and editor behind the Sentinel. Because I live in the same community as you, I'm able to provide accurate, nuanced, on-the-ground reporting to help you understand the impact of elections, legislative actions, leadership changes, new laws and more.

I actually go to local meetings in person. I meet local people, talk to leaders and request documents. No other news source in the area does that.

Recently, the Sentinel:

  • Produced the first-ever interactive, nonpartisan voter guides for Mat-Su and local city elections, all based on reader input.
  • Tirelessly (and wow, those meetings were long) covered the saga of former Palmer City Manager Stephen Jellie
  • Covered Houston's questioned elections.
  • Gave you the first stories on Assembly resignations and election challenges
  • Provided clear insight into how this year's ballot propositions affect our daily lives (road repairs, anyone?)
  • Introduced Mat-Su's first text-based news service

And we will continue to provide this kind of public service.

When local news thrives, communities thrive. If you care about that, we invite you to support the cause.

This match campaign is a big deal, and we hope you can count on us to take advantage of this great opportunity to strengthen our nonprofit newsroom.
